Mary Pierce a trente sept ans. Elle naît le quinze janvier mille neuf cent soixante-quinze à Montréal, au Canada. Son père est américain et sa mère est française. Très tôt , elle sympathise avec la petite balle jaune.

A l'âge de quatorze ans, elle entre dans le circuit professionnel et décide de porter les couleurs de la France. Le public a "le coup de foudre" pour cette joueuse attachante et souriante. Il apprécieson talent et sa bonne humeur, sur les courts du monde entier.

En mille neuf cent quatre-vingt-quatorze, Mary est finaliste à Paris ; malheureusement , elle ne gagne pas. Mais, l'année suivante , elle triomphe en Australie. Mary a de beaux jours devant elle.

Le Moulin Hanté

Pendant les vacances, Roger passe une semaine chez son cousin, Marc Chatel à la campagne dans le sud de la France. Un après−midi, les deux amis font une promenade à bicyclette vers un vieux moulin à vent.− Tu vois ce moulin-là, Roger, il est hanté, dit Marc.− Hanté ! Sans blague !− Oui vraiment. Pendant la nuit on entend des bruits et des voix. Quand il y a de la lune, on voit un spectre.Roger ne répond pas. Il a une idée. Cette nuit-là, quand tout le monde dort, lui et son ami vont vers le moulin. En arrivant, ils se cachent. Soudain une voiture arrive. Un homme descend. De tête aux pieds il est complètement blanc. Il ouvre le coffre, prend une grosse boîte et il entre dans le moulin. Nos deux amis se cachent et regardent à travers un trou.− Jules ! Jules! Es-tu là ? L'homme appelle à une voix basse.− Oui, c’est toi, Pierre ? Une autre voix répond.− Oui, c'est moi. J’ai des boîtes dans la voiture.À travers le trou, nos deux amis regardent l'autre homme portant un pantalon blanc et une veste blanche. Sa figure et ses mains sont blanches aussi. C'est le «Meunier» chuchote Roger à l'oreille de Marc. Ils regardent les deux hommes qui vont chercher les autres boîtes. Ils rentrent vite à la maison et ils racontent leur aventure à M. Chatel qui téléphone à la Police. Deux jours plus tard la Police annonce qu'elle a arrêt&é le meunier et ses hommes qui sont des contrebandiers.moulin à vent : windmill | meunier : miller | contrebandier : smuggler | chuchoter : whisper
